Gordon Country 2020
We’ve camped at Gordon Country before, but this weekend was different to the last time we visited this beautiful bush haven.
Firstly, there are many different campgrounds within Gordon Country, so it really can be a different experience each time you visit. It is a huge property.
Last time we stayed in ‘Banshee Valley’ (read about our last visit here) but this time we chose Retreat Camping which is in the ‘Gordon Country Retreat’ section. This is located about 100m to your left before the entrance to Main Range National Park. Approximately 5km from the office.
This section offers upper & lower camping areas alongside a creek.
The upper camping area is near the amenities block which is well maintained with hot showers, flushing toilets & currently plenty of hand sanitiser.
The lower camping area (this is where we camped) runs alongside the creek & is lush & green. Campfires are allowed & the creek is fun to explore & paddle in.
Some things to do -
* Go for a drive around the property - there are plenty of 4wd tracks including the ‘Playpen’, drive up to the lookouts or you can simply just drive around and check out where you’d like to camp next time you visit!
* Go for a bushwalk in Main Range National Park (please note, dogs are not permitted in the National Park).
* Splash around in the creeks, skim rocks, some of the creeks have rope swings.
* Ride bikes
* Play cricket or throw a ball around.
* Fishing
* Just relax by your campfire.
Gordon Country currently have a great little cafe operating behind the office making coffees, hot chocolate, homemade cakes, burgers & sandwiches using produce from their own property. You can also order a ‘picnic’ which we took back to camp. It was delicious. Nothing better than paddock to plate! See our pics for more details.
For our family of 5 including the dog, the cost for our two night stay was $138. Well worth it for such a beautiful property that is obviously very well maintained & cared for.
We think it’s officially our new favourite weekend camping spot!
If you don’t have your own camping gear, you might like to book one of their gorgeous glamping tents or they also have cabins & cottages available for booking. Gordon Country are also well known as a beautiful wedding venue.
Make sure you check it out soon!
