Charlotte Plains Station

This family operated Sheep Station is fast becoming known for its Artesian Bore and Baths, offering a fun & unique camping experience, just 30 minutes from Cunnamulla.

Dotted along the banks of the bore, you’ll find a mix of different bath tubs you can relax in to enjoy the sunset, sunrise or while away any time of the day. Or, just hop into the bore itself for a swim with family and friends.

The bore retains a temperature of about 42 degrees year ‘round and gets cooler as it flows down along the bore channel, eventually becoming the water supply for crops and livestock on the property.

The water contains many minerals known for healing properties, in particular arthritic and muscular aches and pains. During the cooler months, it’s heaven on the chilly mornings and evenings.

There are heaps of spots to camp at the bore site as well as bathroom facilities. If you’re lucky, you might even have a bath right next to your campsite. However, we wouldn’t recommend picking one of these sites during peak times as it’s a bit awkward when random campers take a bath right next to your dinner table.

Charlotte Plains Station allows campfires and it’s also pet-friendly. Adults are $38 p/p per night and children $15 p/p per night. Bags of firewood are available for $15 each.

You can also book a tour of the property with owner Robyn, who gives you a great insight as to the workings of the farm and has some great stories to share.

Our visit happened to coincide with the property’s annual ‘Yabby Delve’. This involves a tractor pulling a delver along through the bore drains to clear them out, leaving lots of yabbies and a turtle or two for the kids to pick up and return to the drains. Lots of fun!

We absolutely loved our visit here and look forward to returning again someday.

Charlotte Plains was one stop on a 2 week road trip out to the Big Red Bash. For more of this trip, check out our Instagram @bigandlittleadventures for the posts and story highlights.
